"The team at Movement Legal recently assisted me on a difficult matter, and I can honestly say that they were fantastic to deal with. As soon as I met Ezra in person I knew I'd found my lawyer. He was sharp and knowledgeable, but was also really compassionate (and remained so throughout the process)."

Your situation is stressful. It is also unique and requires an approach tailored to your own circumstances.
The end of a relationship brings with it many issues that are hard to gain perspective on, particularly when you are experiencing emotional stress.
You may have many questions: What happens to our house? Who will move out of the family home? How will time with our children be managed? How will our finances and superannuation be divided?
Our lawyers are experienced and compassionate. We bring clarity and strategic planning as you face these issues. We act bravely and with a clear head in order to maximise your interests and minimise uncertainty.
We favour solutions that de-escalate the conflict, set realistic expectations, and move matters towards finalisation. We want to get your life back moving again.
We understand that obtaining the best possible outcome for all parties is the end goal. Negotiation and conflict may be unavoidable, but our focus is on achieving a great outcome, avoiding having to go to Court, and evenutally moving you beyond this phase.
Family and relationship law is our domain of expertise and passion. We provide advice in relation to most areas of Australian family law, including:
We will keep you informed with regular updates. We know that family law matters can take some time to work through, and we will never leave you waiting or wondering how your issue is progressing. We will ensure you are informed in a jargon-free manner; dealing with lawyers should not be an intimidating process.
We want our legal services to be accessible to anyone. That is why we can help you with legal financing for your matter if needed.
The first step is to contact us, either by our contact form or a phone call. Our team is friendly and approachable.
We will respond to you within 1 hour (during business hours).
We will have a 5 - 20 minute chat with you to gain a basic understanding of your situation, what you are looking to achieve and how we may be able to assist you. If we can help you, then we will book in an initial consultation, and then get started on your matter. Before starting we will go through the process, and expectations. This ensures we are both in alignment and able to obtain the best possible outcome for you.
Yes. If you wish to change your law firm we can request your files from your previous lawyer on your behalf.
Communication is a core value at Movement Legal. We will keep you updated as your matter progresses through different stages, and will promptly return any emails or calls that you send to us.
No you don't need to come in. We are fully set up to hold any meetings with you via phone, Whatsapp, Zoom or Google Meet.
During your initial consultation, you will be asked questions about the 3 areas of the relationship – assets, the nature of the relationship, and children, as well as what you hope to achieve to settle your matter.
This will enable your lawyer to gain a better understanding of your matter and then be able to provide you strategic legal advice and a course of action.
All appointments and communications are kept strictly confidential.
If you are concerned about someone finding out about your appointment or matter with us, we can tailor a plan to assist you.
You do not need to wait until the divorce has been formalised. As soon as you have separated from your ex-partner, you can begin the process of a property settlement.
Assets that have been acquired during the period of separation will be included in the “asset pool” to be divided between the parties. This continues until the date of settlement.
You are best advised to engage a family law lawyer to help you obtain an optimal outcome from this process.
If the divorce proceeding is one-sided and only one person in the couple applies, then you or your representative will be required to attend Court.
You will also need to go to court if children are involved.
The cost of divorce depends on whether there is any dispute to resolve, whether you will need lawyers to attend a court hearing, and the filing charge of the FCFOA (Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia).
After divorce you will need to go through a 'property settlement', as the divorce process itself doesn't concern property and assets.
This will need to happen within 12 months of the divorce being finalised (or 2 years after the end of a defacto relationship), provided you and your ex-spouse can't reach an amicable agreement outside of the court system.
Children have a right to spend time with both of their parents.
If your ex is preventing you from accessing your children or is making your relationship with them difficult, then speak with us about ways that we can bring change to this situation.
We're ready to assist you. Call or fill in the form - we'll respond promptly.
